This votive feast commemorates the death of the saint Maxime.
Daughter of the count of Grasse, lord of Antibes, she lived between 650 and 750ac, refused richness and glory and was devoted to God while entering to the monastery of Saint-Cassien.
After her death, she was venerated as Saint by Callianais which preserved its body with care. From the XI century, the feast of Sainte-Maxime was celebrated, every year, in the Priory that the monks of Lérins had in Sainte-Maxime.
Very early, this votive feast is accompanied of a "bravade", suspended during a time due to an accident and begun again in 1968.
May, the 14th in the evening, a Major is named to direct the bravade, to ensure the good course of the procession and his safety. It’s him who orders the shootings, helped by two corporals.
The 15th, the procession starts. The bust of the saint, carried by four men, is surrounded by the religious and civil authorities, the bravadeurs, and the drums. The procession is orchestrated in a rigorous way. The procession passes by the streets and the lanes of the city pavoized to the colors of the city.
