Exhibition: Ecorces, an open-air art gallery

As much a passionate artist as a scholar botanist, Cédric Pollet was born in Nice, where Mediterranean and subtropical plants from all over the world have
particularly influenced his gaze, his sensitivity and his desire to travel the globe to discover all these exotic trees in their natural environment.

In 1999, during his landscaping studies in England, Cédric Pollet made an unexpected encounter with an old oak tree. His tormented trunk opens his eyes to the fabulous world of bark.

He thus makes the gamble a little crazy to become a botanist photographer, specialist in bark. Supported from the start by the Fondation de France, he was able to travel to more than 35 countries to find the most beautiful barks on the planet, study them and make them better known. He now shares his passion with a wide audience, through his books (best seller and award-winning), exhibitions, workshops and conferences.

His photographic work remains clean, graphic, pictorial and very colorful. Some of these photos of bark sometimes seem unreal and yet, all these pictures were taken in the daylight while respecting as much as possible the colors of Nature.

Out of respect for her, he wants to remain as faithful as possible to this unsurpassed artist. Fascinated by the ingenuity of the plant, he also collected thousands of samples on the themes of wood, bark, fruit and seeds, thus forming exceptional collections to raise the public’s awareness of the magic of plants. The most remarkable of them is called «phloiothèque» (from the Greek «phloios» = bark). Unique in the world, it consists of raw bark samples from nearly 800 different species.
