Gérard Lavergne's nativity scene: a living tribute to Maximois traditions
For the Christmas holidays, the Espace Maxime Moreau is hosting a unique work deeply rooted in local history: the nativity scene created by Gérard Lavergne. Much more than a simple representation of the Nativity, this nativity scene is a veritable living fresco of the lives of the people of Sainte-Maxime in days gone by.
Each figurine, each setting and each scene tenderly and accurately evokes the old trades that shaped the identity of Sainte-Maxime. We see the gestures of the cork workers, the fishermen braving the waves of the Mediterranean, the olive growers harvesting the fruits of the earth, and many other emblematic figures from everyday life in days gone by.
Through this nativity scene, Gérard Lavergne does more than just celebrate Christmas: he passes on a memory, a culture, a heritage. Visitors are invited on a journey through time to meet the men and women who brought the village to life with their passion and expertise.
This work, both artistic and historical, is a precious testimony to the soul of Maximoise. It reminds us that behind every tradition lies a story, and that Christmas can also be an opportunity to reconnect with our roots.
