Danse : aSH

Saturday 4 May 2024 at 8.30 pm.

She dances while anchored to the earth.

The work of art rises behind her, moving, mutated, and deafening. Powerful struggle is present. The other is subdued by Shantala Shivalingappa, who is filled with Shiva's force. She extends an invitation to follow the plot of her narrative with infinite kindness.
The tale of this life, which Aurélien Bory has rewritten and which combines traditional dance with modern dance, draws in the senses and transports viewers to the very edge of consciousness.

Ten years after beginning his trio of portraits of women, Aurélien Bory accomplished it with aSH. In this performance, he concentrates on the life of Shantala Shivalingappa, a divine dancer who represents the ideal synergy between contemporary dance, which she has devoted her career to since its inception, and the ancient art of "kuchipudi," of which she is the best living embodiment. Since her early days with Maurice Béjart, she has dedicated her life to modern dance. Each motion emphasizes the performer's grace, delicacy, and impeccable skill in technique.

Shantala Shivalingappa executes dances inspired by Shiva, the god of dance who is both the creator and annihilation of the universe, while being accompanied on stage by the rhythms of drummer and composer Loc Schild. He is the lord of the cremation sites and is covered in ashes.

Shantala Shivalingappa represents Shiva in this chiaroscuro environment, who makes it possible for the world to exist and for space to dance. Her steps draw mandalas on the floor with the dexterity of a jeweler in a delicate, creative gesture where purity and sensuality coexist.

The choreographer and performer skillfully combine their worlds to bring us on a perpetual voyage between ancient culture and cutting-edge technology.
A stunning display of uncommon beauty that overwhelms us is taking place between fire and ice, between East and West.
