Monet facing his torments: Clovis Cornillac, Maud Baecker and Éric Prat deliver an intense trio in a moving and luminous play.
Clovis Cornillac, Maud Baecker, Éric Prat, a breathtaking trio of truth in this suspended moment in Monet's life! Tristan Petitgirard's effective staging and Stéphanie Jarre's realistic set design plunge us into the creative fury of the painter assailed by doubts… The play, sensitive and luminous, paints a nuanced portrait of one of the giants of Impressionism.
Rouen, opposite the cathedral. A vast glass roof floods Monet's studio with light, overlooking a lingerie and fashion boutique. The master is going through a painful period: he is still grieving the death of his beloved wife, their two children have left home, and he is suffering from the onset of blindness. It will take him time to rediscover his inspiration and, later, create his masterpiece: Water Lilies… Thanks, perhaps, to this unpredictable model who arrives casually and makes herself at his side. Played by Maud Baecker, known for her role in Alexis Michalik's play The Illusionists' Circle, the radiant Camille will rekindle his zest for life and the joy of painting. Cyril Gély's text focuses on this particular episode in the artist's life, capturing all the uncertainties, all the renunciations, all the hopes he finds in the face of the canvas, which until then had remained desperately blank. All the joys, too, in the company of his muse.
