Fête de la Saint-Jean

Monday 24 June 2024 at 8.30 pm.

St John's Day is celebrated around the world on 24 June, a few days before the summer solstice, to celebrate the light of summer thanks to the St John's bonfires.

Every year, Sainte-Maxime celebrates St John's Day in style with the "Leï Magnoti" folk group and the "Fifres et Tambours".

Provisional programme:
8.30pm: free distribution of lanterns to children in front of the Town Hall
9pm: arrival of the flame from Mont Canigou, speeches by the authorities followed by the lantern procession through the town centre
9.45pm: arrival of the procession on the Aire des Magnoti, traditional dances followed by the Midsummer bonfire on the Luc Provensal beach (town centre)
10.30pm: fireworks over the sea
10.40pm: dance at the Théâtre de la Mer

The lantern parade is a lovely ceremony during which children (aged 3 and over) accompany the procession, each carrying a lantern in their hands.
