Plage des Éléphants

Elephants beach, located a stone’s throw from the city centre of Sainte-Maxime, was made famous by the comic strip "Voyage de Babar" by Jean de Brunhoff, published in 1932.

The creator of Babar stayed in this area of Sainte-Maxime and he was inspired by this beautiful landscape to illustrate the famous honeymoon trip in hot air balloon of Babar and his wife Céleste. Today, the De Brunhoff house still exists and still watches the sea. This wild beach is perfect for relaxing and sunbathing! Unattended beach. From 1 October to 31 May, dogs are tolerated on the beach of La Croisette, La Madrague, Les Eléphants and the beach bridge area of the city centre. Owners are required to keep their dogs on leashes and must pick up their needs. Outside this period, dogs are allowed on the beach of the city center only under the bridge. Blind dogs are allowed on all beaches.
