When you taste a Provence wine, you savour a bit of history. A story that started 2 600 years ago, when the Phoceans founded Marseille and introduced for the first time in France, a wonderful plant : Vine.
Since then, the art of its tillage and the wine tradition have come a long way. Between the Mediterranean and the Alps, the Provençal vineyard stretches from west to east for nearly 200 kilometers mainly in the departments of Var and Bouches-du-Rhône and, to a lesser extent, in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Côtes de Provence
Geology & culture
There isn’t just one but several Côtes de Provence and each one with its own geology and climate related personality. Five major natural areas constitute the appellation of which these are currently delimited by three denomination of terroir.
The terroir of the Côtes de Provence appellation is a complex geology where two large geological blocks coexist : one limestone, at the north and west, and the other crystalline at the south and east.
The climate is Mediterranean overall, but the discrepancies due to the reliefs and the influence of the sea are important.
Grapes & winemaking
Côtes de Provence wines outcomes are from blending -very ancient tradition and technical winemaker- which consists of vinifying separately each grape variety, then blending the wines obtained. This practice makes it possible to have balanced wines, presenting the qualities of each type of grape variety :
– The red and rosé grapes : syrah, grenache, cinsault, tibouren, mourvèdre, carignan, and cabernet sauvignon.
– The white grapes : rolle, ugni blanc, clairette, and sémillon.

Domaine de la Tourraque in Ramatuelle
The Domaine de La Tourraque has been carrying on a family know-how since 1805, in a unique terroir between land and sea. Today, in the heart of the classified site of 3 Caps, the family continues the authentic cultivation of the vine and produces wines in AOP (appellation of protected origin) Côtes de Provence and a small production of olive oil. Domaine de La Croix in La Croix Valmer
Created in 1882, the Domaine de La Croix covers, today, 90 hectares planted in A.O.C. (appellation of controlled origin) Côtes de Provence, restructured and cultivated in sustainable agriculture since its acquisition in 2001 by the Bolloré group. Efforts are constant to develop racy wines that celebrate elegance, finesse, balance and pleasure. Domaine de la Giscle in Cogolin

Le Cellier des Vignerons of Collobrières
At the heart of the Massif des Maures, Le Cellier des Vignerons of Collobrieres is an estate offering the wines of the cooperating wine growers of the town. Created in 1952, several generations of winemakers succeeded one another so that the vineyard is preserved and developed with an ambition and a constant desire to value the "terroir". About fourty cooperatives produce about 10,000 hectoliters in volume and work throughout the year for A.O.P (appellation of protected origin) Côtes de Provence and I.G.P. (protected geographical indication) Var Maures.
