Description
There's no need to introduce Abd Al Malik, a major and pioneering figure in France's hip-hop culture!
! The rapper-storyteller-slam poet is back on stage, bringing with him the album *Gibraltar*, which has left an indelible mark on his life as a man and an artist. His way of sending a message of peace to humanity and bringing different identities together.
Twenty years after its release, the album *Gibraltar* still serves as a manifesto against exclusion and racism, as its portrayal of the life of a young “gangsta rapper” who decides to cross the sea to Morocco remains as relevant as ever. Now freed from the burden of the identity crisis—caught between his parents’ Congo and France, where he was born and raised—Abd Al Malik is at peace. He has therefore chosen to celebrate *Gibraltar* to emphasize “the importance and urgency of reconciliation” in the face of globalization. He draws on musical samples from the world’s cultural heritage to create a new work and seamlessly blend his favorite genres: rap, jazz, and Jacques Brel, to whom he pays tribute in his song “Les Autres.” A visual and theatrical narrative of words, movement, and instruments that showcases his talent for oratory and his unique, powerful presence—qualities that make him an essential artist and one who is definitively unclassifiable.
