Description
Whether it’s “Mythical Armenia” or “Celestial Armenia,” André Manoukian draws on his roots and childhood to create a fifth album in which traditional music and modal jazz blend seamlessly.
Eastern music and classical influences flow through his veins, blossoming into Levantine arabesques.
André Manoukian, an iconic media figure, is above all a remarkable pianist and composer who loves to share his passion for music. Whether in the studio or on stage, he enjoys sparking unexpected dialogues between instruments, creating catchy melodies, and inviting the finest musicians of the moment to perform alongside him. For *La Sultane*, his compositions are supported by the spectacular phrasing of Mosin Kawa’s Indian tablas, Gilles Coquard’s double bass, Anissa Nehar’s cajón, the violins of the Appassionato Orchestra conducted by Mathieu Herzog, arranged by Herzog himself and Simon Cochard. Not to mention the Armenian diva Arpi Alto, whose “velvety” voice enchants two poignant lullabies. It is an invitation to journey to the East—a blend of memory and music, symbols and traditions—conceived as a tribute to her mother, who used to call her little sister “my Sultana”…
