Description
By adapting Barillet and Grédy’s cult classic, Charles Templon pays homage to boulevard theater and gives Clémentine Célarié, Philippe Uchan, and Hugo Bardin (aka Paloma) dream roles.
Full of precision, rhythm, energy, and freshness! Theater that feels like a celebration—and which, behind its biting irony, embraces a clear feminist and political stance.
Rooted in the imagination of the 1970s, *Potiche* tells the story of a transformation. That of a housewife—Madame Suzanne Pujol—who was thought to be merely “decorative” and “a kitchen queen,” but who, against all odds, proves herself to be an effective business leader by seizing the floor and power with an iron fist. A role tailor-made for Clémentine Célarié, who follows in the footsteps of her illustrious predecessors: Jacqueline Maillant, Danielle Darrieux, and Anne-Marie Carrière on stage, and Catherine Deneuve on screen in François Ozon’s film. Surrounding the actress, the cast excels, caught up in the whirlwind of a satirical comedy with a breakneck pace, high-quality humor, and a delightfully vintage spirit. Meticulously crafted by two skilled masters of boulevard theater, it takes a sharp swipe at the mores of the bourgeoisie during the “Trente Glorieuses” without holding back, alternating between misunderstandings, incongruous situations, predictable plot devices, and nostalgic nods—all presented with as much kitsch as possible!
