Description
The Toulon-based firm Kubilai Khan Investigations has been on the road for thirty years!
Today, echoing the mechanical ballet of port cargo, his new creation delves into the logistics of warehouses—where strange choreographies unfold—and imparts a continuous flow of micro-pulsations and variations to the trio of dancers.
From one continent to another, from one port to another, Kubilai Khan Investigations has never ceased to break down barriers. In *Panamax*, choreographer Frank Micheletti draws on the ceaseless movement of workers, shipping containers, and the seas to “open new breaches” where bodies orbit in stationary states. Like a mirror held up to the repetitive gestures of maritime trade—storing, stocking, preparing, carrying, packing, selling—the piece navigates between contemporary dance and urban dance styles, particularly Popping, for which it invents new trajectories. Post-Panamax is a piece that is paradoxically “monumental,” like port constellations, and “microscopic,” like the thousand and one gestures of the warehouse workers. The choreography is set to varied and controlled rhythms so that the movement of the bodies never seems to stop, accompanied by music mixed live by Yaguara.
