Located in Sainte-Maxime, in the Var, La Madrague beach is notable for its succession of small, unspoilt coves, which are ideal for snorkelling. The rocky seabed and Posidonia seagrass beds provide the perfect setting for observing fish and marine life in a natural, unspoilt environment.

Our unspoilt natural setting

La Madrague beach charms visitors with its peaceful atmosphere and unspoilt natural setting overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Lined with pine trees and rocks, this cove with its authentic charm offers a true haven of tranquillity, ideal for recharging your batteries away from the hustle and bustle.

Consisting of a series of small coves, it is particularly popular for snorkelling, allowing visitors to observe rockfish and Posidonia seagrass beds in clear, unspoilt waters. With swimming, exploration and moments of calm, La Madrague embodies a pure nature experience , in the heart of a coastline that remains unspoilt.

 Posidonia – what on earth is it?

Posidonia is a rare flowering plant capable of thriving in the sea. It is a plant endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, which makes the seabed there unique. It forms vast seagrass beds that provide fish with a variety of shelters, spawning grounds and food.

Posidonia seagrass beds act as a natural ‘lung ’: they produce twice as much oxygen per square metre as a forest. The Posidonia beds along the coast also provide natural protection against beach erosion; their preservation is therefore essential.

 Dogs allowed

Two areas along the town’s coastline are open to dogs all year round, namely:

  • the dog beach in the town centre: this is a section of the town centre beach situated opposite the Préconil bridge;
    the land area at Pointe des Sardinaux (except in July and August): this natural site (Sensitive Natural Area) is a meeting place for many dogs.
  • Owners must keep their dogs on a lead at all times and ensure they pick up after their pets, in order to maintain hygiene at these sites and ensure everyone can enjoy the area together. On the town centre beaches (with the exception of the area mentioned above), the Oursins, Nartelle and Garonnette beaches, and the southern tip of the Pointe des Sardinaux, dogs are prohibited all year round.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs, however, are permitted all year round on all beaches.
