A day trip to Les Sardinaux

La Pointe des Sardinaux, a wild, unspoilt peninsula nicknamed “Little Corsica”, is a true haven of peace for the whole family. Combining relaxation with exploration, young and old alike can observe plants, seaweed, shells and shellfish in an unspoilt setting overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

 A natural and unspoilt setting

Located just before Nartelle Beach, the Pointe des Sardinaux is accessible only on foot via the coastal road lined with umbrella pines heading towards Saint-Raphaël. Access from the main road is unobtrusive: parking is available at the side of the road.

This exceptional spot forms part of the coastal path and offers an enchanting spot to stop off, in both winter and summer.

Things to do at Pointe des Sardinaux

  • Picnics and relaxation: Enjoy a family outing on the grass in the shade of the pine trees.
  • Wildlife spotting: Explore the rocks to discover shells, crustaceans and seaweed.
  • Beach: A small sandy beach invites you to soak up the sun.
  • Scuba diving: Depths ranging from 0 to 40 metres to explore the Mediterranean underwater world.

The Pointe des Sardinaux in Sainte-Maxime is the ideal spot for a family day out, combining nature, the beach and history, away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

Practical information and access for dogs

Two areas along the town’s coastline are open to dogs all year round, namely:

  • the dog beach in the town centre: this is a section of the town centre beach situated opposite the Préconil bridge;
  • the land area at Pointe des Sardinaux: this natural site (Sensitive Natural Area) is a meeting place for many dogs.

Owners must keep their dogs on a lead at all times and ensure they pick up after their pets, in order to maintain hygiene at these sites and ensure everyone can enjoy the area together. On the town centre beaches (with the exception of the area mentioned above), Les Oursins, La Nartelle, La Garonnette and the southern tip of Pointe des Sardinaux, dogs are prohibited all year round.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs, however, are permitted all year round on all beaches.

Historical curiosities

Pointe des Sardinaux holds two treasures waiting to be discovered:

The Second World War bunker: a reminder of the landings of 15 August 1944.

A Roman fishpond: a remnant of the Roman era and a symbol of maritime heritage.
