The Var hinterland

Ajouter aux favoris

Fancy getting away from the coast and exploring some typical Provençal villages in the Var? Follow the guide! Head up into the Var hinterland, towards the Dracénie region.

 The village of Tourtour

Ranked amongst the most beautiful villages in France, it is also one of the highest villages in the Var, with a panoramic view stretching 100 km in all directions. This hilltop village overlooks part of Provence. It has managed to retain its traditional character as an old village, with its ancient stone buildings and fountains…

Incidentally, Tourtour was one of the villages nominated for the title of ‘France’s Favourite Village’ in 2015!

 Sillans-la-Cascade

This charming village has everything to win you over, not least its waterfall. Come and admire this natural gem nestled in the heart of the Var – a waterfall worthy of the most beautiful islands! Follow the footpath from the village to reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking this waterfall with its turquoise waters. You can also enjoy the many walking routes starting from the village.

 Cotignac

A village built at the foot of a cliff with cave dwellings. Particularly beautiful and well-kept, it perfectly captures the charm of Provence with its small, shaded squares, fountains, market and bistros. Take the time to climb to the top of the rock to admire the view of the hills, olive trees, pine trees and vineyards…

 Le Thoronet

Be sure to visit the site’s most iconic feature: its Cistercian abbey. With its simple, uncluttered design, it will fill you with a sense of tranquillity.

 Les Arcs-sur-Argens

A former medieval town, you’ll discover the charm of this village as you wander through its narrow streets, along its ramparts and up the cobbled paths leading to the castle. Don’t miss the Sainte-Roseline Chapel, situated a little way out of the village. Les Arcs-sur-Argens is best known as a major centre of wine-growing in the Côtes de Provence.
