Southern Flora

The garden showcases shrubs typical of the region:

  • Arbutus: A small tree growing to between 1 and 5 metres, with evergreen foliage and edible fruits that change colour from green to red.
  • Myrtle: A shrub native to the Massif des Maures, 1 to 3 metres tall, producing small black berries with a resinous flavour.
  • Rockrose: A Mediterranean shrub with narrow, sticky leaves, producing magnificent white or pink flowers when in bloom.

Trees in the Botanical Garden

  • Stone pine: Also known as the ‘pignon pine’, its distinctive silhouette dominates the pine forests of Sainte-Maxime.
  • Holm oak: An iconic tree of the garrigue, with evergreen, spiny leaves.
  • Cork oak: Known for its thick, fissured bark, which is still used to make corks.
